Part one of this project is designed to help you improve your figure drawing skills. By understanding what exists beneath the surface of the skin, your figures will look more three dimensional.
You will need a transparent sheet with a 1/2" grid drawn in colored sharpie to lay over the drawing of the skeleton. Then with a pencil, create a 1" grid on a 12" x 18" sheet of drawing paper. Carefully transfer the image square by square to the paper from the picture. Shade matching the values of the bones as they recede and advance.

Part 2: Now we will use some creativity with our skeleton, both in design and medium. We will use scratch board for the medium, it is a white paper or Clay product covered with black ink that is scratched away to reveal the highlights of your drawing. You will only receive one piece of scratch board so you will want to do a rough draft first. If the draft is perfect, you can transfer the drawing to the scratch board using carbon paper. Here is a link to a site about the use of scratch board medium.
The design: What I would like you to do is create a skeleton metamorphosis. Your final piece will be 8"x 10", so start with paper that size. Then, find a portion of the skeletal structure that intrigues you, envision how it may "morph" into some organic or other form. Use incredible detail and texture to make it clear that this is or "was" a part of a skeleton that is changing into something else.
Here are some examples, please do not use them, create your own idea!
