An idea for an Art Club project is to produce a "Zine". A Zine is short for magazine or fanzine and is a publication of ideas, pictures, art, music, humor, politics, social scene, fashion, science, philosophy, games, psychology, TV.... whatever you want. A group zine has contributions of pages by individuals that produce pages regularly or only once. Maybe they have one thing they would like to write about regularly, like music, or one random idea, maybe about something that seems unfair at school. The pages should look cool and personal not commercial. They can be hand drawn and written, scanned or copied, created in photoshop, or typed on a typewriter.
I'm thinking that we should start with a Zine workshop at the first of the year, to see where we want to go with it. Here is a link from some raw material that went into a thing called "The Book of Zines" Last year the Utah State Senate sponsored an art competition to award scholarships to high school students. The good news? They will be doing it again this year! The deadline last year was early November, so until they release the rules for this year, we should assume it will be the same.
The focus will be on the Architectural Elements of the 100 year old building and the artwork must be 2-D, the following media are eligible: oil, pen and ink, watercolor, printmaking, graphic design, and digital drawing. Here is the link to last year's additional info. |
