Film making/ video film production
I have been teaching video production to grades 3-8 for 3 years. I went through the SHIFT cohort program and have done numerous PD’s with the BTSALP program. With different classes we have explored videography using flip cameras, stop motion using digital cameras, produced music videos, and animated still images. We have created informational videos, historic videos, public service videos, and interactive videos. Last year Helena Rodriquez from Clayton, won the USOE Martin Luther King video grand prize for middle school student.
I have been using the curriculum provided by SHIFT but as more teachers are tackling this medium, there are a lot more resources coming available. A woman who teaches film at Ogden High School presented at the UAEA conference last winter and she provided us with a wealth of strategies on how to keep film makers on task while out of the classroom.
New curricular studies in film making that I would like to explore…
· Youtube: A form of self-expression or a marketing tool?
· Providing content for publishers and broadcasters
· Animated Autoethnographies: Stop Motion Animation as a tool for self-inquiry
