Foreshortened Figure Charcoal Drawing on Toned Paper
(Breadth piece)
Foreshortened: to portray or show (an object or view) as closer than it is or as having less depth or distance, as an effect of perspective or the angle of vision. This process creates drama.
Step 1: Watch video posted below on foreshortened figure.
Step 2: In your sketchbook, create 3-4 thumbnails using the shared mannequins. A: straight on full figure B: top down with large head and legs almost invisible C: sitting position with feet facing you. These sketches should indicate cross contour lines (see image above)
Step 3: Photograph a subject, fellow student, in a foreshortened posture to work from. We will do a colored pencil drawing from that image, incorporating atmospheric perspective elements to compound the effect.
.
When creating this work, be looking at the reference photo you have chosen.
Map out the figure out in a hard pencil, lightly, first to keep things clean and accurate.
And most importantly, HAVE FUN with it!
